A Letter from the
Secretaries-General

Dear Participants,

As the Secretaries-General of MUNDP 2025, it is with great pleasure that we welcome you to our conference. This year, we will be hosting the 25th annual session of the Model United Nations Development Programme (MUNDP), an affiliate of The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN).

Since its establishment, MUNDP has excelled as one of the top Model United Nations conferences around the globe. In previous sessions, MUNDP has hosted over 850 participants from 60 schools and 25 countries. With 25 years of experience, we strive to improve and expand every year.

MUNDP is exclusively the only MUN platform worldwide that simulates the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Annually, the theme of our conference is set as one of the five development regions of UNDP, each with its own Regional Bureau. The designated theme for this year is Arab States. Consisting of 22 countries and an estimated 473 million population, the region encompasses many humanitarian, political, and economic issues that are yet to be solved, most of which are included in the agenda items of MUNDP’25.

MUNDP‘25 aims to create a platform where participants can debate on various different global issues in alignment with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDG’s were selected by the General Assembly as part of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The main purpose of the SDGs is to promote sustainable development and build a better future. Nations must cooperate towards the implementation of SDGs with the purpose of preventing further political, economic, and humanitarian conflicts while achieving development and growth. Issues preventing the successful implementation of SDGs must be resolved to further enhance sustainable development.Many of the issues within this year’s region, the Arab World, stem from cultural differences that generate political hardships. The lack of political stability has had a notable impact on governmental institutions which have been challenged by rising powers, creating an unstable region liable to numerous revolts. This instability has caused economic and social discrepancies as well, damaging civilians’ living standards. Despite these issues, The Middle East and mainly Arab Nations are of vital importance to global networks due to their geopolitical location and abundance of energy supplies.The upcoming MUNDP conference consists of 7 exclusive Development Committees that correspond to the subunits of UNDP. Each committee aims to address and resolve 3 agenda items encompassing specific issues that  prevent sustainable development within the Arab States.

On the other hand, MUNDP entertains a total of 8 Special Committees which all possess distinct rules of procedure that serve unique purposes. All special committees have been selected with great care, considering the needs of the region.

The regional committee of MUNDP’25, the League of Arab States (LAS), is a union that represents all 22 nations of the Arab World, built to promote solidarity between nations and to protect the independence of each other through means of diplomatic communication and dialogue. The LAS works towards establishing cooperation, welfare, and sovereignty by gathering all Arab Nations together, deciding and moving in alignment with each other, for a safer and more secure future for all.

A further unique component of MUNDP is “L’Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie” (OIF). OIF is conducted entirely in French. It is with utmost honor that we continue to host the first bilingual MUN conference in Turkey.

In order to achieve the sustainable development goals, UNDP gives precedence to countering the aforementioned problems in the Arab States. UNDP collaborates with governments and Non-Governmental Organizations to tackle regional issues such as political instability, economic insufficiency, environmental problems, and armamentary concerns.

On behalf of the Executive Committee, we are delighted to invite you to MUNDP’25, which we believe will be the most memorable MUNDP conference yet. With a quarter century of experience, MUNDP is amongst the most prestigious conferences available to the global MUN community. The diligent efforts of our Executive Committee promises to provide an unforgettable experience for all of our participants in this year's session. We look forward to seeing you this year, where we celebrate a quarter century of commitment to development.
