About

The United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (UNDPPA) is one of the departments of the Secretariat, responsible for assisting the Secretary-General and the Security Council in their efforts to “prevent deadly conflict and build sustainable peace around the world.” The department, which was established on 1 March 1992, has now been reformed in the year 2019, with new advancements made in its peace and security infrastructure.

UNDPPA has engaged with many governments and other bodies, seeking to overcome complex political and peacebuilding challenges all around the world, including Africa. It has played a crucial role in addressing and resolving disputes throughout Africa, aiming to build peaceful and sustainable relationships among all parties involved. UNDPPA has played a significant role during and after conflict situations numerous times;  where it has supported peacebuilding efforts, promoted governance reforms, and encouraged socio-economic development in regions suffering the aftermath of violence and destruction caused by conflict.
