About
United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), established on the 8th of April 1979, is a UN Organisation primarily associated with Sustainable Development Goal 9, Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and is dedicated to promoting and accelerating inclusive and sustainable industrial development in the Member States. The Organisation has four focal points which are creating shared prosperity, advancing economic competitiveness, safeguarding the environment, and strengthening knowledge and institutions.
The Arab Region has a diverse economic structure that comprises both African and Asian economies and dominantly takes part in the lower technology industries such as food and refined petroleum products. However, the region faces serious macroeconomic problems due to the ongoing regional conflicts and the challenge of diversification that affects the growth of industrialization in the Arab World. To support resilient industrial growth and reduce poverty rates, UNIDO designed a program in the Arab States that establishes increased trade capacity and productive activities that aim to tackle youth unemployment and encourage higher technology industries. Additionally, UNIDO aims to enhance modern technologies and adaptive capabilities in the Arab States by developing systematic global mechanisms that entail global partnership and assistance.
