About MUNDP

A 27-Year-Long Tradition.

MUNDP is a tradition of twenty-seven years, passed on from generation to generation of students of the world-renowned Koç School. Each session is one class’s turn to host it, and one chance to witness it, before they hand it on.

MUNDP began in 2001, when students at the Koç School set out to run a Model United Nations conference of their own. Twenty-seven years later it is still organised entirely by students, and more than twenty thousand delegates have passed through its committees.

The conference found its identity early. MUNDP is the only MUN conference in the world that simulates the United Nations Development Programme. Each year its committees turn to one of the UNDP’s development regions and spend the conference on the questions that shape it, working in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. The 22nd session brought together over 850 participants from 22 countries across three continents, and the room has kept growing since.

MUNDP belongs to the selective circle of THIMUN affiliated conferences and follows the THIMUN rules of procedure. An exceptionally committed executive board and student officer team keep debate moving in good order, while MyDP, the conference’s own online platform, was built in house to carry the practical side of the weekend, so that delegates, advisors and officers can give their attention to the debate itself.

The setting does its part too. MUNDP is held on the 62-acre campus of The Koç School in Tuzla, established by the Vehbi Koç Foundation on the Asian side of Istanbul. Delegates spend their days in committee and their evenings in a city that has carried three empires, its museums, markets and waterfronts all within reach of the campus.

In February, the story continues with the 27th session.
